Banana Chocolate Granola

There is nothing better than a bowl of crunchy granola topped with yoghurt and fresh fruit. Unfortunately almost all store bought granolas are laden with sugar (you should avoid any products with more than 5g sugar per 100g), salt and other chemicals and preservatives.

Making a good quality granola at home can save you a lot of time in the mornings and make sure to avoid the high sugar chemical laden supermarket varieties.

This banana chocolate granola is made up from predominantly nuts and seeds, which provide healthy fats to keep you fuelled and feeling full through the morning. There are natural sugars in the recipe to give the granola flavour. This sweetness comes from the banana, using fruit as a natural sweetener is better choice than sugar or artificial sweeteners as fruits have a higher fibre content so your blood sugar should remain stable through the morning.


  • 1 banana
  • 1 cup oats
  • 1 cup raw almonds
  • ½ cup sunflower seeds
  • ½ cup pumpkin seeds
  • ¼ cup coconut flaked
  • 2 tbsp melted coconut oil
  • 2 tbsp nut butter
  • 3 tsp cocoa powder or ground cinnamon


  1. Preheat oven to 200 C
  2. In a bowl finely mash banana and add coconut oil and nut butter.
  3. Add oats, nuts, seeds, coconut flakes and mix until all nuts, oats and seeds evenly coated with oil and nut butter mixture.
  4. Mix in cocoa powder or cinnamon and mix until all nuts and seeds are evenly covered.
  5. Lay out evenly on a baking sheet
  6. Bake for about 15-20 minutes until golden


  • Serve = 2 tbsp
  • Serve with plain organic yoghurt and fresh fruit
